World's Largest Advertising Hoarding at Euro 2008

As the Euro 2008 football championship enters the quarter finals stage, online betting exchange Betfair has made its own mark on the tournament with the creation of the world's largest advertising hoarding, as seen on the final approach to Vienna's International Airport.

Football fans flying into the airport will be able to see the advert which covers an area the size of more than fifty football pitches, spelling out the slogan: "NO.1 FOR FOOTBALL. AND STILL GROWING!"

http://www.Betfair.com and its team of local farmers and horticulturalists have spent the past four months growing different kinds of plants to spell out the message, which has now been ratified by the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest advertisement ever, or as it is officially know, the 'World's Largest Advertising Hoarding'.

The dimensions of the ad measure 1,380m by 316m, creating a total area of 436,000 square metres. It took nine tonnes of wheat seed, 53,000 marigold plants, 1.5 kilometres of cotton netting as well as rape, camomile, mustard, clover, poppies and grass to create the advert. The individual letters are 44 metres high and up to 41 metres wide.

The total area of the advert is equivalent to 62 times the size of London's Trafalgar Square, or 8.9 times the size of Vienna's Ernst Happel Stadion, the venue for the Euro 2008 final.
