World's Largest Horizontal Wall World Record

A SUFFOLK-based seed company is bidding to become a world record holder after creating what it believes to be the world's largest horizontal wall of flowers.

More than 20,000 blooms adorn the floral masterpiece, which is set to be centre stage at Thompson & Morgan's open weekend event in Ipswich this weekend.

The wall is almost 200ft long and is covered in 397 flower pouches containing the Busy Lizzie 'Accent' variety of flower, which is one of the company's best-selling plants.

The firm has applied to Guinness World Records in an attempt to set a new world record and will be visited by two independent adjudicators in the coming weeks.

Clare Dixey, of Thompson & Morgan, said: “We open our trial grounds to the public this coming weekend.

“We always put on a magnificent display and always try to improve every year to make it better for our customers.

“We decided to create a huge wall of flowers. When it came into flower, we thought 'wow' - no one had seen anything quite like it and we had an idea of going for the Guinness world record.

“It looks absolutely spectacular. Whatever pictures are taken they don't do it justice.”

It is not the first time the company has achieved a Guinness World Record.

Previously, it broke an existing record in 2004 for displaying the largest amount of potato varieties.

Up to 5,000 people are expected at the company's trial ground in Poplar Lane, Ipswich, this weekend for the open event.

The event will be AA signposted from major routes around Ipswich and will be open from 10am - 4pm on Saturday and Sunday.
