Non Stop 62 Hour Concert Guinness Records Attempt by Pancham Academy

A little-known school of Indian music here has begun a 62- hour, non-stop concert to register its name in the Guinness World Records.

Seven artistes of Pancham Academy kicked off the musical marathon in their humble studio at 7am on Sunday in the presence of legal eagles, doctors and prominent citizens, and will conclude the record-breaking performance at 10pm on Tuesday, the 62nd birthday of the director, Pandit Bhupendra.

Playing harmonium, ‘tabla’ (a popular Indian percussion instrument consisting of a pair of hand drums) and ‘tanpura’ ( along necked Indian plucked string instrument), the Academy members will sing some 436 classical songs in 109 ‘ragas’ (melodic modes) for 62 hours at a stretch to smash the current record of a 52-hour feat, held by an Indian.

The musicians, most of them in their early 20s, will, however, take a 15-minute break after every three hours.

“The complete video recording of the programme will be sent to the Guinness officials,”
