longest solo journey record : Blue Peter

Blue Peter host Helen Skelton has broken two world records in her 2,010-mile kayak trip for Sport Relief.

Helen, 26, has tripled the longest solo journey record by clocking up more than 1,000 miles in just three weeks.

She also paddled 75 miles in a day - the longest distance by a woman in 24 hours.

"One thousand miles down, one thousand to go," she said. "My shoulders are painful, my legs are covered in leech bites - but I'm battling on."

Helen, who is paddling about 60 miles a day with only one rest-day a week, left the start of the Amazon, in Peru, on January 20 and aims to finish in Brazil.

A Guinness World Records presenter said: "We hope to ratify these records as quickly as possible to identify this unbelievable success."

Blue Peter hopes Helen will inspire families to rise to their own challenges for the cause or enter the Sport Relief Mile and raise money that will change lives forever.
